SYNAPSE - DAY 1

11th December, 2009
Convention Hall,
9.30 am

The inauguration of SYNAPSE was scheduled at 9.30am and we were asked to report the Convention Hall @ 9.00 am..The Chief Guest invited was Mr. Dilip Kapur,CEO, Hi-Design, the first company to have its production base in India and its market outside India.. But the Indian market started growing up it got its market in India as well..and the global crisis make the company to increase its percentage in Indian market to above 50..

It was a great beginning with a 2hour interaction session with Mr. Dilip, where each one of us tried to take out everything requires to become a successful entrepreneur... How he started, how he continued, what all difficulties he faced, what are major challenges etc. The thing which he insisted on was "Willingness to make mistake while working and taking lessons from them in future"..

He also emphasized on three things which are most important in any person and they are an individual should be Innovative, Creative, and should have Self-confidence...These qualities will take any individual to any level he desires to be in his life..He also emphasized on a SIMPLICITY... He also quoted Aurobindo's words "Greatest beauty is Simplicity" and he works on this concept. He came to meet the students and interact with us and he was really happy after meeting all of us..

Next was the first panel discussion..CEO Panel..The discussion was on our SYNAPSE THEME
" GLOBAL INTEGRATION: OUTLOOK FOR THE FUTURE"

We had four CEOs from 4 different areas.. Mr. V Ramachandran, CEO, Management & Mr. Mohan Narayanan, CEO, Kubos Consultancy Services, Mr. C. S. Dwivedi, Vice President -Mfg, HCL Infosystems, Mr. Shyam Madhavan, CEO, Wannabe Studios.

Mr. V Ramachandran started the discussion and focussed on acquiring knowledge, globalization, focusing on what needs to be done and global outlook...

Mr. V Ramachandran was followed by Mr. Shyam. Mr. Shyam, one of our Alumnus has recently directed first movie based on Guirrela marketing concept..He focused on ONE WORLD-NEW WORLD concept..He tried to clear us one thing that Web2.0 is only a means to enhance communication on a global platform..It is no different from the real world..All the management techniques which applies to real world also applies to the Web2.0 world, as behind the screen its all human..He ended his discussion by quoting "In business we don't get what we want but we get what we negotiate".

Next was Mr. Mohan, and he spoke on focusing Feel Good perspective, value of Human Capital,Change Management consisting of two issues - Cultural Issue and People Issue, Cloud computing etc.

Next was Mr. Dwivedi, moderator for the panel, who tried to consolidate the points and adding few from his behalf which included thought process, need to be strategist.. He also shared a very interesting fact that Most of the things start as a compulsion and later it becomes a Great Desire..Mobile phones are the best example of it.. He also told a great relation between Right decision, Experience and Wrong Decision. All these three forms a cycle and helps in the growth of the organisation.

The discussion was followed by the question answer session between the students and the panelist where more and more doubts were cleared by us regarding the issues discussed.

As well said, Wisdom speaks up and always delivers something great..Today we also got a great opportunity to learn from these experts which will really gonna benefit us in a long run...

Tomorrow we have three panel discussions: Marketing, HR and Finance Panel..Looking forward for an enriching experience..gud nite..

SYNAPSE- An Industrial Institute Interface

SYNAPSE, the most awaited event of Department of Management Studies, a platform to practically experience all the lessons of Management by organizing it at such a large scale. Eminent personalities from corporate world are invited to discuss on the current issues and providing a new dimension of thinking for the future managers..Sharing the unexplored areas which can be easily explored and motivating the students towards the entrepreneurial line.

SYNAPSE this year is scheduled on 11th, 12th and 13th December 2009..I chose to be a part of PANEL Committee whose role is to fix the panelists by inviting the corporate experts in their field. It was really the most typical job. But its really very interesting to do it. The biggest problem for this committee is to keep the confirmation of panelist live till the last day.just prior to the week of the event many of them cancels owing to important assignments in their organisation. Working under such a crisis and arranging for new ones is really headache..But managers are there to manage the everything even in crisis and thats what is the fact that keeps us driving..

Our work started two months back in October itself as our exams were scheduled in between...We were the first committee to began our work and immediately after the semesters first one to get back on to the work..

ONE WEEK PRIOR TO SYNAPSE

Wow this was the great time..Every committee was in progress and moreover our semester results were also expected..Long meetings were going on among the faculty members to decide upon our result..it was expected to be out on Thursday , a week before the SYNAPSE..but it keep on postponing..Daily we have stories results are coming today results are coming..The fever for SYNAPSE and Results was going parallel...Panelist were confirming and few were cancelling.. Magazine was to be published.. And articles were asked from the student.. Daily I get reminder from Maria, Head magazine committee, submit ur article submit ur article... and me yaa sure Maria give me some time, i m not getting time..

In between i was also asked to do the design committee work as i worked for the Design committee during MILAN, our Alumni Meet..I went on with this work also and designed Invitation and Banners along with the senior Karthik..

Looking forward for a great interaction and knowledge enriching experience in coming days..

The most awaited UC class...

Its been a long time I m writing back..lots of events occurred in between..Major among them were Milan '09 and recently my Semesters...I wish to be regular now..

30/11/2009

Today we started with our new semester, 2nd semester..The real essence of MBA..All the specialization together in one semester..Wow!! its really exciting..Started with a Project Management class by Charu Mam, which is full of activities, a full semester Man-meet program.. Most of the activities are similar to that...Role plays, Business Plans etc...On the very first day deadlines for everything is final..

Next was UC mam class..The most awaited class since we joined here..UC is taking our Marketing Management..It was simply great as expected...Marketing and Branding..The two core words around which every business is revolving in the whole world...How marketing is used for branding and unbranding..What are the areas which need branding and what are the areas that need unbranding..how marketing for unbranding is going on now a daz..PETA & SPCA initiatives..

Demand is created with three things - Need, Want and Purchasing Power.. Difference between Need and Want..Thirst is a need while water, cold drink etc are want...transportation is a need while owning a car is a want..How marketing is converting Needs into Wants so as to increase Demands..Types of demands and their existence in our day to day life..wow..it was really cooool...

Lots n lots of stuff for googling like blue cross, green marketing, milk vs soya etc. Came to know about www.ted.com a platform for sharing amazing Ideas..Pranav Mistry and his thrilling ideas about sixth sense technology..

The very first class is changing my mind towards my choice for the area of specialization...lets see where i land at the end of the semester...Overall great class great lessons in mere 100 mins..

EVERYTHING GETS MULTIPLIED!!

Everything gets multiplied...

This i got from my friend Neelima..She is my batch mate here and in a very short time we became good friends..She is full of positive energy and positive attitude towards life...and believe me it really helps in overcoming number of situations..

"Everything gets multiplied" is true in every situation of life..whether good or bad...whatever we do gets multiplied...and its effect is not only limited to us but to our surroundings...

At time when we do something and result is unexpected we feel it was all waste..it would be better if i would have not done that...we don't realize output may take sometime and the the output we are seeing is just an internal process of the work done..The things which we do further adds to this process to give the final result...

We should always look for bigger picture in our life as tats what matters in our life...And the bigger picture is always satisfying...Moreover, by focusing on bigger picture we can easily overcome other shortcomings in our life also...

Everything we do gets multiplied is true in every aspects..lets take some example...

Friends...We make friends in our life through interaction...the more we interact our friend circle keep multiplying...The more we talk, more we know new things...our knowledge bank keeps multiplying...The more we eat, more our weight gets multiplied...:)

The best thing about "Everything gets multiplied" is that it always motivates us to help others..This gives meaning to the life and always adds to internal satisfaction and happiness...

MAN-MEET 1..

MAN-MEET - I
21st August, 2009

Man-Meet i.e. Management Meet is a club in our department started by students for the students..It involves various management events like adzap, quiz, crosswords etc. All interested students have been put into 8 teams with 8 members each including senor and junior. Each team is being headed by a senior..

I have been put into "Team C" with our leader as Karthik..Our team include two more seniors Venkat and Kunal..Other members are Harman, Makzoom, Gaurav, SelvaManish..

Event started at 5pm. It was organised by Team A whose leader is Ujjawal..He announced the whole event..there were two rounds..first one was crossword 10 mins time and then second was adzap..other teams came with chart papers and everythg...but we were not having anything..our team was most unprepared team... :)

First event started..a crossword in 10 mins...Pen was in Venkat hand and he was writing the answers quickly...out of 15 questions we were able to work out 12 questions in 10 mins...hmmm good atempt bt still everything depends on other team performance as well..

Next was the 2nd event announcement... A theme was given and each team has to present on that theme either thru charts or thru an act..The theme was "A product for the Rural India", missing exact terms bt meaning same..

We were given 8 mins for thinking on the theme and then each team has to perform it in 2 mins..In between crosswords answers were announced and we were highest scorers with 8 marks bt sharing it with two other teams...nw the winner was to be decided on the basis of Adzap...

In 7 mins we could only work on the idea of our product i.e. RFID, a cattle detection device using radio frequency, given by Selvamanish...the skit theme was still to be decided..but our team had great minds n one of them is Venkat..he worked on the theme quickly..in between the gaps everyone was discussing in between their team so 2 more minutes were given to all the teams...and that was sufficient for all of us..

Teams were called in random order and all came with unique themes.. Cowdung-fuel bike, walmart concept in village, bank service, website service etc..cool ideas..we were 2nd team bt we were called at last...

our act begin with venkat sir acting like a villager who lost his cattle..then his friend selvamanish told him about the RFID and introduced to the technical person karthik for introducing that device..there was a small role of me playing a typical village housewife..really funny act and we really enjoyed doing that...

Then the final scores were announced and we stood first but again a tie with one team...Tie breaker was a question round related to the product the team presented..from our team selva went for the question and our team was cheering after every line he was saying..

And finally the result was announced and THE WINNER IS

"TEAM C"
yipeee....we won..we won...we won..
THREE CHEERS FOR TEAM C
HIP HIP HURRAY!!

Presentation skills...

Communication classes by Victor sir are the most interesting classes...learning minute things and then applying them in our life will ultimately develop us...especially our grammer mistakes...its very important...

The best class was our presentation class..he shown us Steve Job(CEO APPLE) video, one of the best presenter in the world..It was really mesmerizing...and then discussion n extracts from that video...

  • Use of simple but effective words like Extraordinary, amazing, cool, incredible, awesome..

  • Setting a theme before presentation like "Something in the air today", "Today apple will going to reinvent the phone".

  • Makes a theme clear and consistent.

  • Creates a headline that sets a direction for the meeting...

  • Provides the outline...like today i m going to discuss the four things...

  • Opens and closes each section properly...

  • Make easy for his listeners to follow his story...

  • Demostrate enthusiasm...

  • Make numbers and statistics meaningful..

  • Analogies help connect dots for ur audience..

  • Presentations are visuals and simple with one or two photos or videos...or simple two three words..

  • Trigger your presetation like a show...

  • Identify your memorable moment and build upto it...

  • REHEARSE REHEARSE REHEARSE..

  • adds drama at the end by saying "one more thing"...

Most presenter convey information Job inspires....

Inspirational Thoughts!!

One of my senior Sesu Dass sent a wonderful mail about Brand Manager activity. Best part is as follows:

It is quite common when we face failure we would see all this with a lot of doubt and we would be dejected. If we read a lot of quotes there would be some kind of rejuvenation and freshness. It will lead to quick thinking.

Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You

There comes a time when you must stand alone.

You must feel confident enough within yourself to follow your own dreams.

You must be willing to make sacrifices.

You must be capable of changing and rearranging your priorities so that your final goal can be achieved.

Sometimes, familiarity and comfort need to be challenged.

There are times when you must take a few extra chances and create your own realities.

Be strong enough to at least try to make your life better.

Be confident enough that you won't settle for a compromise just to get by.

Appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow, develop, and find your true sense of purpose in this life.

Don't stand in someone Else's shadow when it's your sunlight that should lead the way.

I find it as the best part cos I needed the boost up it gave to me...

First Guest Lecture, Latha C. Poonamallee

25th July,

First Guest Lecture by one of our alumnus, Latha C. Poonamallee (1995 passout)

8.30 am whole class was ready for our first guest lecture. Our other batch mates already went through this lecture and the feedback was a long lecture good time to sleep.

So everyone just ace with the same perception. But it turned out to be totally different. Although a long one of 4 hours but turned out to be the most interesting one.

It begin with the talk about the our department how it was and how it is now..then a small details about our Alumni..And it was really great to know about them.

Then we begin with our TOPIC of Discussion PERSONALITY AND MOTIVATION....first half for personality and second half for motivation..

Personality part came out with different types of personality categorized by different authors. The solid categorization was

MELANCHOLIC
CHOLERIC
SANGUINE
PHLEGMATIC

We can classify any personality in these four categories. Then importance of knowing about the personality. Its always helpful in any workplace, as we can work our way by knowing the type of personality is the other person, and working according to that.

And we can start with this practice in our very learning environment. And this is the best place to practice them. And by the time we are out in the corporate culture we will be expert in working with different personalities. hmmmm thats great thing to practice.

OB has always been boring but getting a new view to practice it in our present environment really makes it very interesting.

Next comes Motivation... Earlier in 1950s and 1960s MONEY was the only motivating factor for ost of the organization... But now its much more than that... Maslow's hierarchy of needs describes it best ...

PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS
SAFETY AND SECURITY
LOVE AND BELONGING
SELF ESTEEM
SELF ACTUALISATION

Each of these needs have different threshold for different persons.. Accordingly, the way of Motivation is different for different persons...

It got over by 1pm and most of us enjoyed it to our best. Its always so great to have interaction with our alumnus they always give new way to look at things we are into...

Legacy continues...

Senior Junior interactions...

As soon as we join any college, senior junior interaction is something very common and expected...And its more of Intro sessions from junior side to senior side in the way they want it...

Sometimes its called PDP(Personality Development Program) sometimes something else... But before coming to BSchool it is the least expected thing...But legacy continues here also...And if you get offended by any of these things its being said as a "Culture", existing since the formation of the depratment..And moreover they organise it to bring more understanding in our batch about each other...

At times fun at times really irritataing but it goes on and on...The point is how long can it extend...Lets see...
